Virtue-Strength November 18
The strength of the week is Sacrifice. The strength to forgo one’s own benefit for the good of others.
The best example of sacrifice is that of Jesus – He gave His life to redeem us.
May we learn how to SACRIFICE for those around us especially our family members, classmates and teammates.
Help us to develop the habit of looking for ways to do good for others.
Bible Quotes
John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Matthew 16:24: “Then Jesus told his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.’”
POSITIVE EFFECTS OF SACRIFICE
• Leads to a sense of fulfillment, stronger relationships, and spiritual growth.
• It helps us to become more like Jesus, who made the ultimate sacrifice for us.
• Brings joy and satisfaction because we are helping others and following God’s will.
• Strengthens our character and helps us grow in virtue.
• Offering up immediate gratification helps us to grow in self-discipline.
The vice is SELF-INDULGENCE The weakness of seeking one’s own personal desires above all others.
It is giving in to one’s own desires and pleasures without consideration for others or for what is right.
It weakens our ability to resist temptation and grow in virtue.
“All the good works in the world are not equal to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
because they are the works of men but the Mass is the work of God.
Martyrdom is nothing in comparison, for it is but the sacrifice of man to God but the Mass is the sacrifice of God for man.”
– St. John Marie Vianney
“Let us remember that love lives through sacrifice and is nourished by giving. Without sacrifice, there is no love.”
– St. Maximilian Kolbe
