From the Principal

I welcome you to Our Lady Queen of Heaven School. Our school is one of five Catholic schools in the Assumption Catholic Schools system that unified in 1999. We are located at 750 10th Avenue South, on the southwest side of town. Our Lady Queen of Heaven is a primary campus, hosting kindergarten through second grade students.

We have a full-time staff of six homeroom teachers and shared teachers for physical education, music, and art. Many family and friend volunteers provide further support in numerous areas of our school setting. All of our teachers hold current Wisconsin DPI licenses. OLQH’s teachers are very dedicated and truly embrace each student’s desire to reach his/her full potential. The teaching team is dynamic and ambitious; we incorporate numerous teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of all students.

I encourage you to give your child a Christ-centered learning environment in addition to the elementary coursework needed to keep your child successful. Our Assumption Catholic School's curriculum includes the NCEA  Benchmarks and Standards, as well as, the Diocese of LaCrosse Curriculum standards as the minimum teaching/learning standards and benchmarks for all students and teachers.

Our Catholic faith infiltrates every aspect of our school day. Each day is begun with prayer. Classroom teachers make sure to allow many opportunities for prayer throughout the day. They teach the faith by modeling Christian behavior, maintaining high standards of respect for others, holding students accountable for their behavior, and conducting daily religion lessons. Each week, a children’s liturgy is celebrated involving Mass readings and prayers of petition performed by children from the homeroom responsible for that week.

In 2011 Assumption Catholic Schools earned District Accreditation from AdvancEd. We continue to work toward school improvement and desire to ensure that our students will be well prepared to be lifelong learners and productive citizens of our future; citizens who will respond and reach out to the needs of others in our global society.

I welcome you to visit our school. Walk the halls and listen to what children are saying. Our Lady Queen of Heaven School is a wonderful place for children to learn and grow, intellectually and spiritually. Registration materials are also available on this web site.

Peace and blessings to you and your family,
Rebecca Gudelis, Principal

Guidance

The Elementary Schools guidance program uses a “primary prevention” approach in order to prevent minor problems from developing into major ones. The approach is based on the fact that all children are unique individuals and have numerous strengths from which they can draw as they attempt to cope with the many challenges of growing up.

Even small children have frustrations and problems, which occasionally seem overwhelming. For this reason, individual and small group counseling are available with the guidance counselor.
