Counselors meet with
students to:

  • Provide support when dealing with personal problems

Counselors meet with parents/ guardians to:
  • Provide support for parents
    seeking help

  • Provide information regarding available community resources

  • Share information about their child within the boundaries of the counselor’s professional ethics

  • Review student academic performance

 

Counselors consult with staff and other professionals to:
  • Help identify and assist students with academic difficulties

  • Assist administration in coordinating activities such as orientation, testing and course selection

  • Assist staff in teaching curriculum dealing with developmental guidance

  • Make referrals to community agencies when necessary

ACS Counseling Program

Assumption Catholic Schools Comprehensive School Counseling Program is an integral part of the primary educational mission of the school system. 

This program supports, facilitates and encourages classroom instruction and student achievement.  Our school counseling program is proactive and preventive in its focus. It assists students in acquiring and using life-long learning skills.  More specifically, our school counseling program employs strategies to enhance academics, encourage self-awareness, assist in faith development, foster interpersonal communication skills, provide career awareness, develop employment readiness, and impart life skills for all students.

 

Assumption Catholic Schools Comprehensive School Counseling Program is based on the National Standards for School Counseling Programs and the Wisconsin Comprehensive School Counseling Model, which integrates academic, career, and personal /social development.  The school counseling program reflects the progression of student development from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.  It is delivered through a direct service program consisting of the following components:


  • School Counseling Curriculum
  • Individual Planning
  • Responsive Services
  • System Support




The program is systematic, sequential, clearly defined, and accountable. DPI licensed school counselors develop, implement, and assess all program components through collaboration with teachers, parents/guardians, administrators, students. The school counselors collaborate with school staff members to ensure that optimal student outcomes. The counseling program helps ensure equal opportunity for all students to participate fully in the educational process.

 

High School Guidance and Counseling

The High School guidance program offers individual academic advising, career exploration, post secondary advising, and counseling support for individual students.

 

The High School guidance program helps students identify colleges and universities that best match their needs and abilities, and assists them through the college admissions process. Brian O'Donnell encourages students to pursue the strongest academic program appropriate for them and to develop special talents or interests beyond the classroom.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Assumption Catholic Schools’ Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. In partnership with other educators, parents or guardians and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure all students in Assumption Catholic Schools have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

This program is structured to anticipate and address the personal/social, career/vocational, and learning/educational needs of all pupils. This approach stresses information through classroom instruction, small groups, and individual counseling. The counseling program also recognizes that prevention of problems is not always possible, therefore, intervention services are provided as needed. The expertise of the school staff, parents, community agencies, and business and industry personnel will be utilized to provide a school/community based comprehensive counseling program.

Middle School and Elementary Guidance and Counseling

The Middle School and Elementary School guidance and counseling program offers classroom guidance, group activities, parental programs, and counseling support for individual students.

Program Features

A Comprehensive School Counseling program supports our students by involving families, schools, and our community in helping children to have meaningful learning experiences. All students participate in the program.

 

The program prepares all students to succeed in academic development, career development, and personal/social development.

 

Curriculum is based on the Wisconsin School Counseling and the American School Counseling Association Standards.
